Περιγραφή
The book “Maritime English for the Shipping Industry” has been written to become an essential tool for the learning and understanding of maritime terminology. Therefore, it is addressed not only to university students of Maritime Studies, to deck cadets of Merchant Marine Academies and to nautical institute students but also to Master Mariners of all classes, to professional seafarers and generally to all those involved in the various fields of the Shipping Industry.
It comprises 30 chapters, all of which focus on specific maritime issues. All chapters are structured in such a way as to provide a comprehensive level of nautical and maritime terminology: this is done through a wide selection of reading texts, vocabulary exercises and terminology, aiming to assist the reader in getting acquainted with the maritime terminology.
The readers, also, have the opportunity to practice, test and expand all of their language skills through reading comprehension, writing tasks, listening and speaking exercises and by vocabulary activities – all of them within a maritime-related context. Furthermore, most of the basic structural and grammatical phenomena are presented in a simple and comprehensible way throughout the book.
Although there has been an attempt – on our behalf – to cover the widest possible part of the maritime terminology field, this terminology is considered rather broad by its nature and, therefore, all comments and recommendations would be highly appreciated and welcome. Finally, the level of difficulty concerning the chapters is gradually increasing – this becomes more obvious after the 20th Chapter, since most of the basic and introductory maritime terminology has been presented and covered in Chapters 1 to 19.
It is our true hope that this book will be the beginning of a magic voyage in the immense maritime world!
